The total amount of light produced by a source is measured in lumens. The total luminous flux of a light beam is 1 lumen when its intensity is 1 candela, and its space angle is 1 steradian (which for a cone-shaped beam is equal to an opening angle of 65.5 ). Therefore, 1 lumen per steradian is equivalent to 1 candela.watts/steradian. To measure radiant intensity, start with the angle subtended by the detector at a given distance from the source (see Figure 4). Then divide the amount of flux by that solid angle. Radiant Intensity is a property of the light source and may not be relevant if the spatial distribution of radiation from the source is non-uniform.
